CNPC Kunlun Capital Delegation Visits Matwings Technology to Jointly Advance AI-Driven Green Biomanufacturing

A delegation led by Tang Lin, Assistant General Manager of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and Chairman of Kunlun Capital and CNPC Capital, recently visited Matwings Technology for a special research exchange focused on AI protein technology innovation and industrialized green biomanufacturing. Participants included Zheng Xiaowei, Deputy General Manager of CNPC Capital; Tian Na, Chief Financial Officer of Generali China Life Insurance; representatives from CNPC Capital-affiliated financial institutions; and experts from the CNPC (Shanghai) New Materials Research Institute. Hong Liang, Founder and Chief Scientist of Matwings Technology, together with the company's core executive team, hosted the visit. The two sides held a symposium covering AI protein design technology, collaborative new materials innovation, and deep industry-finance cooperation.

Focus on AI protein design: building defensible R&D barriers via dry-wet closed-loop capabilities

At the start of the visit, Hong Liang gave a systematic introduction to Matwings Technology's development history, core algorithm architecture, automated experimental platform, and commercial pipeline layout. He noted that the company's core competitive advantage rests on its proprietary dry-wet closed-loop R&D model, powered by its self-developed protein R&D agent MatwingsVenus™ (Xiaowu™): AI models drive high-throughput design of protein sequences and structures, while automated wet lab platforms deliver high-precision validation, forming a highly efficient "design–validation–feedback–iteration" cycle that compresses traditional multi-year protein R&D timelines down to months or even weeks.

Tang Lin and the delegation conducted an on-site tour of Matwings' AI-powered automated lights-out laboratory platform, which supports fully unattended operation across the full workflow of sample preparation, reaction regulation, and detection & analysis — serving as the critical infrastructure enabling the closed-loop R&D model. Hong also demonstrated the company's commercialized outcomes across circular economy, health & wellness, industrial enzyme preparations, and affinity chromatography filler proteins delivered via this dry-wet closed-loop system, providing a tangible demonstration of AI protein technology's cross-sector empowerment value.

Unlock collaboration potential: co-building a new paradigm for joint R&D

During the symposium, Tang Lin recognized Matwings Technology's technical roadmap and real-world implementation capabilities in AI protein design. He noted that since the Kunlun Beigong Fund managed by Kunlun Capital led Matwings Technology's Series A+ financing round, the two sides have maintained close exchanges across petrochemical basic research, bio-based new materials, and low-carbon green manufacturing. Matwings' AI protein design capabilities are highly aligned with CNPC's strategic transformation priorities in new materials R&D and biomanufacturing, with multiple high-priority collaboration opportunities ready to advance. Tang proposed that building on existing cooperation foundations, the two sides deepen substantive collaboration across technology sharing and capital coordination, to connect the full value chain from basic research to large-scale industrial deployment.

Experts from the CNPC (Shanghai) New Materials Research Institute presented the institute's accumulated expertise in analytical science and AI computational chemistry, proposing the joint establishment of a collaborative R&D mechanism built on the framework of "data-driven insights + AI design + experimental validation" — deeply integrating the institute's strengths in materials big data and computational simulation with Matwings Technology's core algorithmic capabilities in protein design.

Going forward, Matwings Technology will continue to advance iterative upgrades of its universal protein foundation model and deep, scenario-specific adaptation for vertical industries, continuously expanding the technical boundaries of AI for Science.
