On July 13, Shanghai Matwings Technology Co., Ltd. ("Matwings Technology"), the AI-powered full-stack protein R&D platform, announced the closing of a hundreds-of-millions-of-RMB Series A++ financing round. The round was co-led by Shanghai SDIC Pioneer and SDIC Innovation, with participation from Jujie Microfiber, Ningbo Yongyuan Xinglun Junjin Venture Capital, Jinjing Capital, Futeng Capital, and Caixin Capital. Returning investors including Qiming Venture Partners, Yonghua Capital, GSR United Capital Runpu Healthcare Fund, Bencao Capital, and Shanghai Sci-Tech Innovation Fund also made additional follow-on investments.

Proceeds from this round will be primarily allocated to advancing the company's core AI technology, including continued R&D and iterative upgrades of its flagship product, the MatwingsVenus™ (Xiaowu™) protein research agent with integrated dry-wet closed-loop capabilities. The funding will also accelerate large-scale deployment of AI-driven protein design capabilities across sectors including circular economy, innovative biopharmaceuticals, health and wellness, and medical consumables, further driving the industrial translation of AI for Science (AI4S) breakthroughs from laboratory settings to real-world industrial applications.
Unlike conventional protein R&D tools, MatwingsVenus™ redefines the underlying logic of protein design through natural language interaction: researchers no longer require advanced programming or specialized structural biology expertise. By simply describing their R&D requirements in plain natural language, users can leverage the agent to complete end-to-end workflows spanning market research, sequence generation, and functional design. The agent also connects directly to cloud-connected automated laboratories to execute sample preparation, protein purification, and functional characterization; experimental results are fed back into the AI model for continuous optimization and iteration, delivering a fully integrated dry-wet closed-loop R&D workflow.
